LCPS: Waxpool Elementary School

The staff at Waxpool Elementary School focuses on wall-to-wall, project-based learning, which promotes deeper learning opportunities than a traditional school environment. Project-based learning gives students a chance to apply their knowledge.

The 59th elementary school in Loudoun County, Waxpool is also one of the first elementary schools in the county to include a heavy emphasis on computer science, coding, and computational thinking.

The new 102,852 SF building serves students in kindergarten through grade 5. The building’s layout is based on the county’s prototypical two-story elementary school design. Shockey built classrooms, a media center, cafeteria, multipurpose room (indoor basketball court and other play areas), and two unlighted outdoor physical education fields.

The school, located near the intersection of Waxpool Road and Belmont Ridge Road, is designed for an anticipated program capacity of 928 students.
