The Goochland County School Board voted 5-0 to hire Howard Shockey & Sons, Inc. for construction of its new elementary school, which will serve 650 K-5 students and 50 preschool students. The completed, new facility includes a gym, media center, and modern security systems.
Designed to be flexible and adaptable, collaborative and engaging, student-centered and age-appropriate, and connected to its beautiful 25-acre site, the new elementary school was funded with bond financing that was approved by voters in 2021, as well as other local funding.
With the Otter as its official mascot, Goochland staff and students were OTTERLY EXCITED to open the “generational school” (according to local officials) for the beginning of the school year. An open house in July 2024 greeted new students and welcomed teachers and staff to the new space.
