Howard Shockey & Sons Inc. is serving as Construction Manager at the new River City Middle School, located in an urban environment at the site of the former Elkhardt Middle School in Richmond. Responsible for preconstruction and construction, Shockey is providing site development and overseeing all mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection services and interior build-out and finishes for the new $64.5 million, 1,500-student capacity school.
The superstructure is comprised of slab-on-grade concrete floors with elevated composite slab areas supported by a steel-frame system with beams, columns and joists. Exterior walls are primarily brick with aluminum composite metal panel systems. To help shorten construction time, exterior windows and doors are prefinished curtain wall and storefront systems.
River City’s teaching spaces will be equipped with marker boards and tack boards. Although school may look a bit different this fall, the Shockey education team continues building great places to work and learn. Despite the current COVID-19 pandemic, construction completion remains on schedule for August 2020.
