National Lutheran Communities & Services (NLCS) chose to work with Shockey again after having partnered with them on The Village at Orchard Ridge in Winchester. The construction team did not disappoint, with project delivery on time and nearly $1 million under budget despite industry-wide material supply chain disruptions due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Designed by BCT Architects, the Glenmere Expansion at The Village at Rockville (TVAR) received an Award of Merit in ENR MidAtlantic’s annual Best Projects competition.
Shockey built the TVAR expansion on five acres within NLCS’ original existing 31-acre footprint. At 295,544 SF, it features two interconnected four-story structures with an indoor aquatic center, fitness areas, and dining venues. The project also includes an 130-unit independent living apartment building with underground parking.
The completed TVAR is a CCRC that offers independent living, short-term and outpatient rehabilitation, respite, long-term nursing care, hospice, assisted living, and memory support. A faith-based, not-for-profit ministry of the Evangelical Lutheran Church, NLCS serves people of all beliefs.
