      Under Construction: Goochland SchoolThe Goochland County School Board voted 5-0 to hire Howard Shockey & Sons, Inc. for construction of its new elementary school. The new facility will serve 650 K-5 students and 50 preschool students and includes a gym, media center, and modern security systems.
Designed to be flexible and adaptable, collaborative and engaging, student-centered and age-appropriate and connected to its beautiful 25-acre site, the new elementary school will be funded with bond financing that was approved by voters in 2021, as well as other local funding.
At the topping out ceremony in October, the staff and students of Goochland Elementary (a “generational school” according to local officials) enthusiastically signed the highest and last steel before it was hoisted into place.
Slated to open for the 2024-2025 school year, Goochland Elementary School’s substantial completion is expected on May 31, 2024; final completion on June 28, 2024.
