Under Construction: S. Garrett (MD) ES

Shockey recently expanded its geographical reach into Maryland in partnership with Garrett County Public Schools (GCPS) and BFM Architects (BFM) for the Southern Garrett Elementary School Renovation and Addition.

The project scope includes a complete renovation and additions to the existing Southern Garrett Middle School, located at 605 Harvey Winters Drive in Oakland. Once complete, the converted, new Southern Garrett Elementary School will house grades Pre-K through 6.

Teaming with BFM Architects, Shockey is involved in the facilitation of the design process, including analysis of alternate construction methods and materials for potential quality, cost, and schedule enhancements, and evaluation of construction documents for constructability, maintainability, and compliance with the budget. Shockey has presented a final maximum guaranteed price to GCPS.

Shockey’s cost estimating, scheduling, and logistical efforts — coupled with partnering with the local subcontracting community — is key to the project’s success.

Phase 1 of construction encompasses renovation of the existing middle school building; Phase 2 will follow with demolition of Broad Ford Elementary School and construction of new parking lots and athletic fields for the space.
