In Progress: S. Garrett (MD) ES

Shockey recently expanded its geographical reach into Maryland in partnership with Garrett County Public Schools (GCPS) and BFM Architects (BFM) for the Southern Garrett Elementary School Renovation and Addition.

Project scope includes a complete renovation and additions to the existing Southern Garrett Middle School in Oakland. Once complete, the converted, new school, located at 605 Harvey Winters Drive, will house grades Pre-K through 6.

Teaming with BFM, Shockey analyzed alternate construction methods and materials for quality, cost, and schedule enhancements and evaluated construction documents for constructability, maintainability, and budget compliance, providing Shockey a final maximum guaranteed price to GCPS.

Shockey’s cost estimating, scheduling, and logistical efforts — coupled with partnering with the local subcontracting community — has been key to the project’s success.

Phase 1 of construction encompasses renovation of the existing middle school building; Phase 2 is following with demolition of Broad Ford Elementary School and construction of new parking lots and athletic fields for the space.

Senior Project Manager Amy Gorman recently guided Broad Ford Principal Wise and a select group of students and staff from GCPS on a tour of the upcoming new school. Students received a sneak peak of the future school’s colors and chose a favorite layout for Media Center furniture.
