In Progress: Halifax County HS

Shockey was chosen to construct the new Halifax County High School, a replacement high school, close to the site of the current high school structure off Old Halifax Road in South Boston. A recent topping-out ceremony showcased the community’s excitement for the new school.

Designed by Grimm + Parker Architects, the facility features a multi-story, V-wing classroom building, auditorium and performance spaces, 2,500-seat gymnasium and auxiliary gym, large CTE workspaces, and a cafeteria at the building’s core.

Howard Shockey & Sons, Inc. served as Construction Manager At Risk for the new school. Construction began in late June 2023 and students and staff attended the new school at the beginning of the 2025 school year.

Following successful construction of the new school, the Halifax County Board of Supervisors voted to move forward with Shockey on a new athletic complex. Shockey has moved from one project to the next, completing final items on the new high school building and starting the preconstruction process for the new athletic facilities.
