Danville’s River District is witnessing a significant transformation as the area experiences rapid growth and development. The city has invested more than $50 million in grants and taxpayer funding since committing to redevelop the area in 2011, and property values are rising; new businesses opening.
Residents and business owners will need space for parking, and Shockey is building a six-tier public parking garage with 432 parking spaces to help meet the need.
Forty-two spaces are located at ground level on Spring Street, with an extra 15 nearby on North Union. Each level of the Spring Street Parking Garage will have 77 or 78 spaces, with 65 spaces available on the roof. The total ground square footage is more than 145,000.
With the investment paying off, city officials are now seeking public input on the next phase of development in the Mechanicsville area through an online survey available on the city’s website.
