The City of Winchester budgeted $9 million for this 540-space award-winning garage and Shockey delivered the fully-automated parking deck well under budget — with 80 extra parking spaces. The seven-story parking structure is the city’s first to be built using a public-private partnership (PPEA) agreement.
Because it is located in the heart of a thriving city — adjacent to The George Washington Hotel in Winchester’s downtown historic district — both design and construction challenges arose. The land acquired for the project did not provide enough space for standard parking layouts, so the team acquired easements around existing property lines to allow for an open parking structure.
The design team was able to effectively incorporate prominent architectural features, such as brick masonry arches, limestone bases, and decorative cornices, by using precast concrete. The garage complements and blends in with surrounding historic structures.
