The concept of whole wellness has been around for a long time.
Dedicated in 1950, the Bing Crosby Stadium boasts a plaque erected by the people of Warren County “in sincere appreciation of Bing Crosby’s assistance in promoting recreational facilities for the youth of this community.”
Back in 1948, while serving as Grand Marshall of the Apple Blossom Festival in Winchester, the iconic Crosby went to Front Royal to help with fundraising for a new ball park. At that time, he contributed $1,000 to the effort. In 1950, when Crosby returned to Front Royal for the premiere of a new movie, he made another contribution of $3,572.92, thus completing the $10,000 fundraising campaign.
Hats off to Mr. Crosby for realizing early on that young people need encouraging public places and space in which to gather.
