Built in 1964, Botetourt County’s jail was designed to house 38 prisoners, but had held as many as 90 until the current Botetourt-Craig Public Safety Facility and Regional Jail was constructed by Shockey. The facility in Fincastle relieves overcrowding with a capacity of up to 214 inmates — and the ability to increase by another 124 in the future.
Our team also built the jail’s kitchen, health care facility and other core areas to accommodate future expansion. In addition to housing inmates, the facility is also home to the Botetourt County Sheriff’s Office, magistrate’s office and emergency services department.
The brick facade and dark green metal roof were chosen to complement the architecture of the surrounding buildings in historic Fincastle.
