When additional space became necessary at Northwest Regional Adult Detention Center, Shockey made it happen through the PPEA process.
Situated on a 33-acre campus in the Fort Collier Industrial Park, the NRADC complex consists of two medium security residential buildings and a new minimum security Community Corrections Center. The first part of the building project, a 41,000 SF expansion, provided a new work-release center and made room for the conversion of an existing work-release facility into standard prison housing.
Howard Shockey & Sons, Inc. finished the new Community Corrections Center in 243 days, concurrent with start of construction of an additional 36,000 SF, 96-cell housing unit attached to the main jail. The newly-added space, which took only 14 months to build, met an expected demand for beds and converted an existing office area in the jail’s support building into three new holding cells.
NRADC is a direct supervision corrections facility. The center provides correctional and court services in support of the criminal justice systems for the Virginia counties of Clarke, Fauquier and Frederick, and for the City of Winchester.
