WINCHESTER, VA (October 22, 2015) – Governor Terry McAuliffe announced today Trex Company (NYSE: TREX), the world’s largest manufacturer of high-performance wood-alternative decking and railing, has invested $12.3 million in the City of Winchester and $3.1 million in Frederick County to expand its manufacturing operations.
Additionally, the company plans to lease newly constructed warehouse space in Frederick County for a training facility and plastics recycling center and to relocate a Trex distribution center for deck railing.
The new warehouse spaces, with an estimated value of $50 million, are being developed and constructed as a build-to-suit project by The Shockey Companies.
The complex of buildings, expected to be approximately 245,000 square feet of space, are being constructed by Howard Shockey & Sons, Inc., part of the Shockey consortium. In the last 20 years, Howard Shockey & Sons has built more than five million square feet of space for a wide variety of industrial, warehouse and advanced manufacturing clients.
“This is wonderful news for the region,” said Virginia Secretary of Commerce and Trade Maurice Jones. The expansion will create up to 89 new jobs in the City of Winchester in the coming years.

The Virginia Economic Development Partnership worked with the City of Winchester and Frederick County to secure the project for Virginia. The company qualifies for rail access funding from the Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation, and is eligible to receive state benefits from the Virginia Enterprise Zone Program. Trex will also receive benefits from the Port of Virginia Economic and Infrastructure Development Zone Grant Program.
