Shockey Recognized As One of Virginia’s Top Employers For Interns

WINCHESTER, Va. — The Virginia Talent + Opportunity Partnership (V-TOP) announced the winners of the Top Virginia Employers for Interns Awards, and Shockey is pleased to earn the recognition for the third year in a row.

The annual award celebrates Virginia employers who provide high-quality internships to college students. “These businesses are models for other employers. They are using innovative methods to help students apply their learning, develop practical work-based skills, and strengthen Virginia’s efforts to prepare the future workforce,” said Scott Fleming, director of the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia.

“The Shockey team is committed to nurturing the next generation of talent by creating meaningful, real-world experiences where interns are empowered to learn, contribute, and grow — and have lots of fun while they’re at it,” said Shockey President Jeff Boehm.

This summer’s internship program will start on May 26. “We encourage future candidates for our internship program to apply early,” said Elithia Cornwell, Chief Human Resource Officer at Shockey, “although we’re always interested in talking with candidates who are eager to learn and ready to explore opportunities.”

In recent years, students have participated from the following colleges and universities:

  • Virginia Tech
  • JMU
  • WVU
  • Mississippi State
  • Penn State
  • Texas A&M
  • UVA
  • Northern Va Community College

V-TOP is administered by the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia in partnership with the Virginia Chamber of Commerce Foundation and the Virginia Business Higher Education Council. It is funded by the General Assembly’s Commonwealth Innovative Internship Fund and Program.
