Groundbreaking for Providence Point in Annapolis

ANNAPOLIS, Maryland —  After more than a decade of planning, a groundbreaking ceremony was held last week for The Village at Providence Point, Annapolis’ newest senior living community, developed by National Lutheran Communities & Services.

Community leaders, project partners, and future residents gathered in Annapolis for the official groundbreaking ceremony.

Thanks to the vision and collaboration of landowners, environmental advocates, and local leaders, this project will serve as a model for better development achieving both environmental stewardship while meeting an important community need for senior housing.

The project includes more than 250 acres of green space — 123 acres are permanently protected under a conservation easement, preserving forest and open space for generations. An additional 143 acres will be protected from future development.

On the adjacent 66-acre development site, there will be a tasteful mix of homes and amenities for seniors that honor the region’s distinctive sense of place. The development will consist of 215 independent living apartments and 30 cottages. Independent living options include one- and two-bedroom apartments and two-bedroom cottages. An on-site health center will include 48 private health care suites for memory care as well as therapy services.

Many future residents of The Village at Providence Point have long called Annapolis home. They range from business owners, to volunteers and community leaders; these are the people who have shaped the city and they are eager to continue contributing to its vibrant culture.

The designer is Perkins Eastman. ARCH Consultants, Ltd. is the owner’s representative. Howard Shockey & Sons, Inc. is the contractor. Construction is expected to take 30 months.
