In Review: It Was A Very Good Year

As Shockey continues to grow and expand, we are grateful for another remarkable year. As in recent recaps, we’d like to share just a few highlights from the past 12 months.

January

I-66 Express Mobility Partners HQ Complex Ready for Business

In Manassas, Shockey completed the Headquarters and Operations Complex for I-66 Express Mobility Partners, providing traffic management, emergency response coordination, maintenance, and snow removal for the I-66 Express lanes. The facility is part of a broad slate of public transportation improvements in the I-66 corridor in Northern Virginia.

Shockey Earns High Ranking on BD+C Giant’s Report 

Building Design+Construction’s Giants Report tracks and ranks the largest architecture, engineering, and construction firms in the U.S. In addition to being ranked on the Top 150 Contractors list, Shockey is honored with appearances on multiple category national rankings.

New Maryland Office is Poised for Growth

With the opening of a new office located at 5111 Pegasus Court in Frederick, Shockey is firmly committed to full service of our core markets in Maryland and the greater Washington DC area.

Shockey Named Among The Best of the Best as an ABC “Top Performer”

What defines The Best of the Best? Associated Builders & Contractors’ Top Performers lists — the only rankings of their kind — recognize contractor achievements in safety, quality, inclusion, diversity and equity, project excellence, and special designations.

Matan Northlake II Nears Completion in Hanover County

Northlake II is one of several Class A industrial/logistics projects Shockey is building for The Matan Companies. Northlake is part of a 1 million SF development project in Ashland, approximately 15 miles north of Richmond.

June

Fairfax County’s Fox Mill School Expands

Together with Fairfax County Public Schools, Shockey celebrated the completion of extensive renovations and additions to the Fox Mill Elementary School in Herndon — updating a 1980s-era school with modern amenities: classrooms, administrative offices, library, and site improvements.

July

New Public Safety Project for Loudoun County 

Equipping youth with a secure environment and a place of healing, the new Loudoun County Juvenile Detention Center (LCJDC) provides pre and post-dispositional detention. Shockey built a youth shelter unit, multiple housing units, and a public resource center with classrooms, gathering areas, and medical offices within a LEED®-certified facility.

Shockey Achieves “Diamond Level” Safety Designation

For contractors who have exemplary safety records, there are six levels of achievement recognized by the national Associated Builders and Contractors organization. STEP Diamond, granted to Shockey, is the highest possible level of attainment. Diamond level organizations are more than 600% safer than the industry average.

Hub for Innovators, Veterans, and Entrepreneurs (HIVE) Begins to Buzz

Shenandoah University continues to bring new life to a historic National Guard armory building as its new Hub for Innovators, Veterans, and Entrepreneurs (HIVE). The facility will be an innovation accelerator and magnet location for tech business startup, expansion, and relocation in Winchester — and a bold bid to be the augmented/virtual reality hub of the mid-Atlantic region.

Topping Out Ceremony Delights Schoolchildren in Goochland County

A topping out ceremony is a tradition in which the highest and last beam is placed on a project. With huge fanfare and excitement, the staff and students of Goochland County’s new elementary school (a “generational school” according to local officials) signed the steel beam before it was hoisted into place.

Experience Senior Living Celebrates Richmond Area Opening

Experience Senior Living (ESL) recently celebrated the opening of its newest senior living community, Sancerre Atlee Station in Mechanicsville, just outside Richmond. Atlee Station is ESL’s first developed and operated community in Virginia.

Rockefeller Neuroscience Institute Finishes Ahead of Schedule in West Virginia

West Virginia University Health System is the state’s largest health system, and the Rockefeller Neuroscience Institute is a premier destination for brain health. For WVU Medicine, Shockey delivered this important project weeks ahead of schedule.
