Shockey Leads The Way: Two ENERGY STAR® Project Winners

WINCHESTER, Virginia — Two recent projects constructed by Howard Shockey & Sons, Inc. for the Loudoun County Public School system have been recognized for leadership in environmental design in the 2021 Decarbonize Your Design Challenge.

For nearly 30 years, EPA’s ENERGY STAR program has been helping businesses and the public prevent CO2 emissions through energy-efficient products, homes, commercial buildings, and industrial plants. Recently, the EPA challenged architects and building owners to achieve ENERGY STAR certification for commercial new construction projects by adopting higher energy-efficient decarbonization strategies that move the next generation of buildings to zero carbon.

The winners of the 2021 Decarbonize Your Design Challenge were selected for exemplary energy design strategies that prevent CO2 emissions. In all, jurors reviewed 33 projects and selected only four winners based on successful and equitable integration of energy efficiency with renewable energy, electrification, and/or other decarbonization strategies in the overall design concept. Of the four winning projects, two were built by Shockey.
