Shockey Will Build New Acute Care Hospital In Warren County

FRONT ROYAL, Va. — Valley Health has hired Howard Shockey & Sons, Inc. to serve as construction manager at risk for its new replacement hospital in Warren County. The hospital will be located on a 150-acre campus along newly developed Leach Run Parkway (pictured above).

The campus will ultimately include the new hospital, two medical office buildings, parking, and a land conservation area. Green space and walking trails on the site will encourage staff, patients, and visitors to stay active and enjoy the outdoors.

Phase One, which starts construction this summer on 28 acres of the site, includes the new hospital and one of the medical office buildings. The hospital and medical office building will be a combined 177,000 square feet.

The new three-story hospital will offer 36 private inpatient rooms, 18 emergency department rooms, six observation rooms (for patients needing additional treatments requiring less than 24 hours), three operating rooms, two endoscopy/procedure rooms, and a cardiac catheterization lab. The new facility will provide a modern, efficient and healing care environment with the flexibility to meet present and future patient, provider, and community needs.

Planned for completion in 2020, the new hospital will replace the Warren Memorial Hospital on North Shenandoah Avenue facility, which was originally built in 1951.

Project team members include Valley Health (owner), Howard Shockey & Sons, Inc. (construction manager), CBRE (owner’s representative) and Perkins + Will (architect).
