Trex Invests In New Facilities in Virginia

FREDERICK COUNTY, VIRGINIA (September 29, 2016) – Trex Company, Inc. (NYSE:TREX), the world’s number-one brand of decking and railing, and leader in high-performance outdoor living products, has expanded into two new warehouses in Frederick County, Virginia.

Trex tapped The Shockey Companies to develop and construct two new facilities to house its distribution and warehouse activities.

“Trex has the strongest distribution network in the industry and a reputation for delivering high-quality service and support,” noted James E. Cline, President and CEO of Trex. “Shockey’s ability to get us into these new buildings quickly and efficiently has made it possible for us to continue to meet the needs of our customers and pursue our growth objectives.”

The first building to be completed offered an initial capacity of 350,000 square feet. The building was site-planned, zoned, constructed, and open for business on an accelerated schedule to meet the needs of the fast-growing company. The showcase of this building is Trex University, a 10,000-square-foot education center where distributors and contractors can learn all about Trex products, materials, and history. Trex leased an additional 230,000 square feet in the same building for pre-packaged railing products that are ready for distribution across the country. With 70’ speed bays along the loading docks, the distribution center is designed for maximum efficiency.

Last month, Shockey completed construction of a second building (407,000 square feet) that is entirely dedicated to the receiving and handling of polyethylene plastics to be recycled. As the largest polyethylene plastic recycler in the United States, Trex keeps more than 400 million pounds of plastic and wood scrap out of landfills each year.

“We understand that our clients need to get into their facilities as quickly and smoothly as possible,” said Jeff Boehm, President of Howard Shockey & Sons. “We were able to capitalize on the combined resources of Shockey’s real estate, construction, and precast teams to deliver a high-quality design-build project on an agressively expedited schedule,” added Boehm.

Both new buildings were constructed with sustainability and durability in mind. Made of recycled steel and enclosed with a precast concrete system, these smart-energy buildings also feature LED lighting.

The new buildings are located next to Route 37 in the new 65-acre Blackburn Commerce Center in Frederick County, near Winchester.
