Shockey Wins Award of Excellence from NAIOP

TYSON’S CORNER, Va. — Howard Shockey & Sons took home an “Award of Excellence” at NAIOP Northern Virginia’s Gala on November 19, 2014. The award, presented in the category of “Best Building, Build-to-Suit Institutional Facility Under $20 Million,” honored Georgetown University’s new Calcagnini Contemplative Center.

The Calcagnini Contemplative Center houses Georgetown University’s many retreat programs—both religious and secular. It offers a place of reflection, solace and spiritual restoration for the students, staff, and alumni of Georgetown University.

The 55-acre site, situated atop the Blue Ridge Mountains in Clarke County, includes a chapel, dining hall, community building, student cabins and a series of outdoor courtyards. The design of the buildings is modern and spare, while still reflecting local rural character in their massing and materials.
