City Hospital Opens New Emergency Department

Phase II Renovations Completed, $11 Million Project
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. – Officials at West Virginia University Hospitals-East’s City Hospital announce the opening of phase II of the hospital’s $11 million emergency department expansion and renovation project.rnrnPhase I, a 17,000 square foot addition to the hospital’s existing emergency department, opened in May. rnrnSince that time, general contractor Howard Shockey & Sons, Inc. (of Winchester, VA) has continued working on a complete rehabilitation of the old emergency department space. According to Chief Administrative Officer Anthony P. Zelenka, the total project is now complete. “Our emergency department at City Hospital opens to patients on November 1 with 40 beds. This gives us the capacity for growth to handle up to 65 beds.”
