Virginia and West Virginia share a proud history of manufacturing.
With Interstates 81, 64, and 95 crisscrossing our region, a pro-business attitude, and a well developed workforce, it’s no coincidence that many of the world’s largest manufacturing facilities and distribution centers are looking at Virginia and/or West Virginia for their next manufacturing, industrial, or logistics project.
Our region gets a further leg up on the competition because of its relatively low cost of doing business, the high number of colleges and universities, availability of hard-working and loyal employees, and a proven capacity for innovation.
Over the past few decades, we’ve seen the manufacturing and industrial sector break new ground with projects in many advanced manufacturing sectors, most notably in the plastics, agriculture, food processing, and construction materials industries.
Shockey is active in all these markets, and has built more than 8 million square-feet of manufacturing, industrial, and warehousing space in the last 20 years alone, for multi-national clients like 3M Corporation, Corning, Trex, and General Motors Corporation.
“It’s abundantly clear that our region has what it takes to compete in the global marketplace, and Shockey brings an additional value to our manufacturing partners – our proven speed to market capacity,” says Jeff Boehm, President of Howard Shockey & Sons, Inc.
- TeMa North America (WV) is currently on a fast track schedule to complete a 42,000 square-foot advanced manufacturing plant that will produce insulation and drainage systems for residential, commercial, and industrial sectors using automated plastics-extrusion technology.
- Trex Company (VA) is the world’s number-one brand of decking and railing, and a leader in high-performance outdoor living products. By partnering with Shockey, Trex quickly expanded into two new warehouses totaling 750,000 SF.
- Melnor Inc. (VA) is one of the leading producers of lawn and garden watering products in North America. Shockey delivered its 130,000-square-foot building housing offices, research and development labs, and a new distribution facility.
“Shockey is pro-business and pro-partnership. No matter where our clients are coming from or how frequently they build new manufacturing plants, we understand the bottom line – they need to get into their new facilities quickly, smoothly, and reliably,” says Boehm.
Shockey’s international clients include Ariake U.S.A., Bayer Corporation, Melnor, Inc., M&H Plastics, Quebecor World, TeMa North America, Toray Industries, and VDO North America LLC.
