Winchester, Va. — Employees of a Frederick County distributor of lawn and garden watering products couldn’t help but smile Friday. After years of getting by in less desirable and leased locations, Melnor Inc. employees were pleased to show off their new headquarters and distribution center at 109 Tyson Drive in the Stonewall Industrial Park — just west of the Interstate 81-Martinsburg Pike (U.S. 11) interchange in Frederick County, Virginia.
Melnor Inc. is one of the leading producers of lawn and garden watering products in North America. Their new 130,000-square-foot building houses offices, research and development labs, and a new distribution facility – all under one roof. The building is environmentally friendly, with light sensors in nearly every room. The floors in the equipment testing rooms also have drains — an important asset in the sprinkler and hose business.
Melnor holds more than 20 patents for lawn and garden equipment. Its products, such as Aqua-Guns oscillating sprinklers and specialty timers, can be found in major retail stores including Home Depot, Walmart and Target, as well as ACE Hardware stores. The company, which does its manufacturing in China and Taiwan and has another distribution facility in Sumner, Wash., is expected to have nearly $70 million in revenue for 2012.
