Work is about 60 percent complete on the 161,000- square foot building on 44 acres at the west end of Battlefield Estates. The total cost of the project is $37.6 million. Howard Shockey & Sons, Inc. is the general contractor.rnrnMuch of the work – plumbing, steel beams going up on the roof and the courtyard – is hard to see from Main Street. Passers-by will at least be able to see the school’s brick exterior going up in the coming weeks. rnrnThe new building will have enough classroom space for 800 students, with the potential for an addition to accommodate 1,000. The current high school, built in 1986 with a working capacity of 456 students, opened its doors to 533. The enrollment as of early April is about 760. rnrnSource: Article in Winchester Star by Adam Van Hart
