STAUNTON, Va. – The City of Staunton plans to celebrate the opening of its new Staunton Juvenile & Domestic Relations District Court with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Thursday, December 18.
The new J&DR Court facility includes two courtrooms, secure program areas for the City Sheriff’s Office, Clerk’s Office, and Court Service Unit, as well as satellite office space for the Commonwealth’s Attorney, Public Defender, and mediator/victim advocate services.
The building was designed by Moseley Architects and constructed by Howard Shockey & Sons, Inc.

“Seeing this new building take shape over the past year and a half on the site of the former Chestnut Hills Shopping Center has been truly energizing,” said Mayor Michele Edwards. “This civic and community anchor will play an important role in supporting continued growth and development in the West End.”
“I am incredibly proud of the team of city staff who have worked on this new facility,” said City Manager Leslie Beauregard. “Despite a tight timeline, city staff and our partners have risen to the challenge of delivering one of the city’s largest and most important civic facilities in decades.”
More information about the project is available on the City’s website at www.staunton.va.us/courthouse.
