HANOVER COUNTY, Va. — Hanover County Public Schools (HCPS) broke ground on the new Battlefield Park Elementary School in Mechanicsville this week.
Cheering on the groundbreaking — with shovels in hand — were students, HCPS staff, and county officials. The ceremony was held on Tuesday, March 18 at the site where the replacement Battlefield Park Elementary School will take shape.
The school division called the day “historic,” sharing photos of the joy and celebration the community shared during Tuesday’s festivities. To see all of the photos HCPS posted, check out this Facebook post.
The architect is Crabtree, Rohrbaugh & Associates, and the contractor is Howard Shockey & Sons, Inc.
The new Battlefield Elementary School is slated to open for the 2026-2027 school year.
