Groundbreaking Date Set For New High School in Halifax County

Halifax High School Rendering

SOUTH BOSTON, Va. — The Halifax County School Board will host a groundbreaking ceremony on Thursday, June 29 at 10 a.m. to mark the start of construction for the new Halifax County High School.

The replacement high school will be located close to the site of the current high school structure, off Old Halifax Road in South Boston.

Designed by Grimm + Parker Architects, the 256,000 SF facility will feature a multi-story, V-wing classroom building, auditorium and performance spaces, a 2,500-seat gymnasium and auxiliary gym, large CTE workspaces, and a cafeteria at the building’s core.

Under the Construction Manager-At-Risk building method being used to construct the high school, Howard Shockey & Sons, Inc. guarantees that its work will cost no more than the agreed-upon price, and could it cost less, with the savings going back to the School Board.

The project is targeting a fall 2025 completion.
