Construction Continues on Commuter Parking Garage in Fairfax

FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. — Have you seen this new parking structure going up along Interstate-66?

Located at the intersection of Government Center Parkway and Monument Drive, adjacent to the new Express Lanes ramps, this eye-catching deck will introduce approximately 820 parking stalls for DC commuters who choose to carpool or use public transit along I-66.

The 262,000 SF facility includes two stair towers, one elevator, a green roof at the top deck, eight bus bays, and related facilities including areas for kiss and ride, slug lines, carpool/vanpool commuters, and bicycle parking. A decorative aluminum picket assembly clads all four sides of the garage.

The Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project transforms Northern Virginia’s Interstate 66 into a multimodal corridor that moves more people, provides reliable trips, and offers new travel options.

The project is a public-private partnership between the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT), the Department of Rail and Public Transportation (DRPT), and a private partner, I-66 Express Mobility Partners.

The project team for the Monument Drive Commuter Parking Garage & Transit Center includes:

Owner: County of Fairfax, Virginia
Contractor: Howard Shockey & Sons, Inc.
Architect: Hammel, Green and Abrahamson (HGA)
