A Year of Growth and Continued Partnerships

It was a remarkable year, and we’d like to briefly acknowledge just a few highlights from the past 12 months.

January

Hovatter School wins national ENERGY STAR® Award

This elementary school project in Loudoun County won a national ENERGY STAR® Award with a perfect score of 100. Nationally, four K12 projects were chosen for honors — and two of the four winning projects were built by Shockey. The other Shockey project is the Elaine E. Thompson Elementary School.

February

Valley Logistics breaks ground

With partners The Peterson Companies and JLL, Shockey began work at this 145-acre site. When completed, Valley Logistics will offer nearly 2 million SF of logistics space in multiple buildings serving the DC Metro region, and will be home to the largest industrial building — at 1.4M SF — along the Interstate-81 corridor.

Shockey is named “Top Performer” by ABC National

What defines the best of the best? Associated Builders & Contractors’ Top Performers lists — the only rankings of their kind — recognize contractor achievements in safety, quality, inclusion, diversity and equity, project excellence and special designations. ABC’s Top Performers are considered thought leaders in the construction industry.

I-Deck For VCU Health Tops Out in Richmond

The high-visibility, five-story, 1200-space parking deck in Richmond is located at the northern edge of VCU’s campus and optimizes what had previously been underutilized space between Interstate 64 and Interstate 95.

May

One Logistics Park Moves Forward

In partnership with Wickshire Industrial, Bethesda-based Meridian JV launches 2.7 million SF of best-in-class logistics in the Northern Shenandoah Valley. Upon completion, One Logistics Park will comprise nine buildings.

June

Monument Commuter & Transit Center rises up along I-66

Located in Fairfax County, this multi-modal transit center includes eight levels of structured parking, a bus transit center, pick up and drop off for ride-sharing, and indoor and outdoor bicycle storage. Solar panels on the roof will power the facility.

July

Museum of the Shenandoah Valley’s Art Park in full bloom

Part of our continuing work with the Museum of the Shenandoah Valley, the new 90-acre Trails at the MSV landscape initiative features the largest outdoor art installation in Virginia, along with miles of trails for walking, running, and bicycling through fields, woods, and wetlands.

August

New Halifax County High School moves forward

Shockey is unanimously selected as Construction Manager at Risk for the replacement high school in South Boston. The multi-story school project will include auditorium and performance spaces, a 2,500-seat gymnasium, and dedicated workspaces for career and technical education.

Shockey is ranked among “Top 200 Contractors” in the BD+C Giants Report

Now 46 years running, Building Design+Construction’s 2022 Giants Report tracks and ranks the largest architecture, engineering, and construction firms in the U.S. In addition to being ranked in the top 200 nationwide, Shockey is honored with a record number of appearances on category rankings, including “Top K-12 Contractors” and “Top Hospital Contractors”.

Warren Memorial Hospital redefines community healthcare

On a 28-acre developed campus with stunning views of the Shenandoah Valley, the Warren Memorial Hospital project created a destination healthcare campus with acute care and medical office buildings in Front Royal. Shockey completed renovations and additions to the campus this fall.

November

Shockey to build new senior living campus for NLCS in Annapolis

Developed by National Lutheran Communities & Services (NLCS), the Village at Providence Point CCRC is slated to include 272 independent living apartments and 30 cottages, along with 48 health care suites. Of the 175-acre site, approximately 124 acres will be preserved in perpetuity.
