WINCHESTER, Va. — The new Valley Health Outpatient Surgery Center welcomes first patients in early December, gradually phasing in to a full schedule by the first week of January 2018.
The $11.5 million state-of-the-art center is a joint venture between the not-for-profit regional health system and more than 50 local physicians to meet a growing demand in the region for convenient, high-quality same-day surgery.
The 21,759-square-foot facility contains three operating rooms, two procedure rooms, and 20 patient holding bays with room to expand.
It is on property adjacent to the Courtyard Marriott Winchester Medical Center hotel.
The construction team included general contractor Howard Shockey & Sons, architects Noelker & Hull, and Valley Engineering.
The center will offer access to less invasive techniques to diagnose and repair problems relating to orthopedics, otolaryngology (ear, nose and throat), neurosurgery and podiatry. The center will be staffed with more than 100 people, including surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurses and administrative staff.
Valley Health President and CEO Mark H. Merrill said Valley Health’s goal is to make the new surgery center the preferred destination for ambulatory care.
The new center’s operating rooms are in addition to the six outpatient surgery suites in the surgery center on the Winchester Medical Center campus and the 16 rooms in the operating room suite at the main hospital.
