Athletics and Events Center Construction Continues | Winchester Star

WINCHESTER, Va. — Construction workers apply bricks to the exterior of Shenandoah University’s James R. Wilkins Jr. Athletics and Events Center.

Bricks will cover the precast concrete panels used to construct the $24.5 million, 77,000-square-foot facility, which is being built next to the university’s Shentel Stadium.

Winchester-based Howard Shockey & Sons is the project’s general contractor.

Once complete, the facility will feature a 63,000-square-foot multipurpose field house with retractable seating for nearly 1,600.

As an events space, it will seat about 5,000 people theater-style or nearly 1,000 people for a sit-down dinner.

The facility is on track to open in early 2018, according to university officials.
