The Shockey Cos. recently completed construction of a second large warehouse for Trex Co. Inc. near Kernstown.
Shockey completed the first facility, a 350,000-square-foot warehouse at 331 Apple Valley Road off Valley Pike (U.S. 11), south of Winchester, last winter. It includes the 10,000-square-foot Trex University, where distributors and contractors can learn about the company, its products and its history. Trex, which has its corporate headquarters north of Winchester at 160 Exeter Drive in Frederick County, has leased 230,000 more square feet in the warehouse to keep pre-packaged rail products for distribution.
Shockey finished the second warehouse last month. At 407,000 square feet, this second warehouse will be used to receive and handle polyethylene plastics for recycling.
“Shockey’s ability to get us into these new buildings quickly and efficiently has made it possible for us to continue to meet the needs of our customers and pursue our growth objectives,” said Trex President and CEO James E. Cline.
Trex has a facility at 181 Battaile Drive in the city that takes recycled polyethylene and transforms it into pellets that can be used to make new plastic. At the company’s deck manufacturing site — which straddles the southern city-county border at 3229 Shawnee Drive, wood-alternative decking and railing are made.
