FRONT ROYAL, VA (July 31, 2015) – Howard Shockey & Sons, Inc. was recently awarded a $32,820,000 contract to build a new middle school for the Warren County School Board.
Warren County is located in the Shenandoah Valley in northwestern Virginia, about 70 miles southwest of Washington DC.
Scheduled for completion in the fall of 2016, the new Middle School is designed to house approximately 800 students in sixth, seventh and eighth grades.
“We’re excited about building our third school for Warren County, having successfully completed Warren County High School and Skyline High School under Virginia’s PPEA statute,” says Jeff Boehm, President.
The new middle school campus will be located on a 31.91 acre-site at the intersection of Happy Creek Road and the planned Leach Run Parkway.
The new 154,800-square-feet building consists of an administration suite, guidance offices, a health clinic, a kitchen, general classrooms, resource classrooms, science classrooms, a library/media center, a gymnasium and locker rooms and other associated spaces.
The facility also includes a cost-efficient “cafetorium” that can seat about 500 at a time, using folding chairs that are located next to the school’s dining area.
Shockey will serve as the general contractor. The architect is Richmond-based Ballou Justice Upton Architects.
Financing for the new school has been secured through a $40.5 million special obligation school financing bonds, issued by the Virginia Public School Authority.
Design of the project is targeting a LEED® Silver certification, as designated by the U.S. Green Building Council.
