Shenandoah Valley Discovery Museum To Expand

Winchester, Va. – The Shenandoah Valley Discovery Museum is moving into a more spacious location at 19 W. Cork St., a few blocks from its present location at 54 South Loudoun St. rnrnThe museum will rehabilitate the former Schewels Furniture building and be spread out over three stories. When complete, the museum will offer 14,500 square feet, more than double its existing space. rnrnPlans call for the new facility to be LEED certified, with a green roof and observation deck. The new facility will house new and expanded exhibits. rnrnThe museum has operated at its current site since it opened in 1995, but the board’s goal, especially during the past decade, has been to find a permanent location.rnrnThe contractor is Howard Shockey & Sons, Inc. of Winchester.
