HARRISONBURG – City Council has given the Harrisonburg Department of Public Transportation the expected go-ahead for a new $15 million transit center. In late 2011, the city announced the selection of Winchester-based Howard Shockey & Sons Inc. to design and build the facility at East Washington and Vine streets. With artistic renderings and updated financial figures available Tuesday, department director Reggie Smith approached council for permission to carry the project to its finish. Of the $15 million, which doesn’t include about $900,000 needed for soil work, federal and state grants have already been awarded to pay for $6.8 million of it. The city’s remaining cost is $9 million, but additional grants are expected to reduce that total.rnrn”What we have will serve the city well and I think for a long time
