WINCHESTER, VIRGINIA (January 31, 2017) – Navy Federal Credit Union (NFCU) hosted a groundbreaking ceremony for the expansion of its operations in the Winchester area last week.
Distinguished guests, including Governor Terry McAuliffe, praised the credit union’s commitment to bringing 1,400 new jobs to the area.
“An expansion of this magnitude is transformational for Frederick County,” said the Governor.
Navy Federal Credit Union is the world’s largest credit union and Frederick County’s largest private employer.
The first phase of the credit union’s expansion will be the construction of a new five-story, 1500-space parking structure.
Construction of the parking deck is anticipated to start in the Spring of 2017 to provide additional parking for the growing staff at the current contact center operations location, as well as in preparation for the new employees that will arrive as a part of the expansion.
After the groundbreaking ceremony, which was attended by company officials and state and local dignitaries, the governor toured one of the call centers to greet employees and answer media questions.
Jeff Boehm, President of Shockey, and Jennifer Macks, Vice President, were also on hand to answer questions about the project.
“We’re honored to support Navy Federal’s expansion efforts in Frederick County, home to our own headquarters,” said Macks, adding that “Howard Shockey & Sons will serve as the general contractor for the parking structure, and precast will be furnished by The Shockey Precast Group.”
Supporting project team members include architect J3 Design Collective and civil engineer Greenway.
The parking garage is being built on a fast-track schedule, and is targeting a January 2018 completion date.
